Synopsis

Synopsis

Jon, a middle-aged professor is going to get married tomorrow, for the second time, to one of his ex-students half his age. But it?s not all roses. Firstly, there?s his cranky mother-in-law-to-be who violently opposes the marriage and who demands repayment of Jon?s loan before the wedding night. Secondly, his plans to build a golf course on the little island of Flatey where they live aren?t going at all to plan.

Thirdly his extremely drunk best man is on the loose without any shoes and lastly, the continual presence of his emotional first wife is haunting his every move… When the guests start flocking to the island, Jon starts getting cold feet… After a very long night of drinking and thinking, will Jon be able to make it to the church on time?

Stills

Press

"Rich with philosophical questions and ideological musing without bridging over into the world of pretention…Insights about the way towards happiness being a road paved with ignorance are highly amusing and accurate, especially given the structural juxtaposition between the comic and dramatic throughout the film."

EXCLAIM

"The set-up smacks faintly of Shakespeare, as a gaggle of guests descend upon a tiny island for a wedding…(Kormakur’s) eye for his homeland’s blinding skies and forbidding horizons remains razor-sharp, and he gets robust seriocomic performances from his game ensemble."

EYE WEEKLY

"Charm, wit, intelligence and warmth."

TWITCH

"Moving performances from Olafia Hronn Jonsdottir, who instils a touch of wistfulness in her money-grubbing character."

SCREEN DAILY

"Quite simply a terrific movie in all possible ways. The actors deliver their roles amiably; it is simultaneously funny and dramatic."

X-id FM 977 RADIO STATION

"Wonderfully talented Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur…a world-class filmmaker with a stunning command of tone and feel…Think of a darker version of Woody Allen or the work of Alexander Payne and you may get close to Kormakur’s hilarious and sad little movie….deft at juggling deep drama and side-splitting humour."

THE CALGARY HERALD

"It is a wonder that films that can be so dark can flip on a dime to be beautiful and comedic. This is the true strength of White Night Wedding …the film was a true gem. The characters were filled with life and it was a true joy to be with them for the duration of the film."

MOVIE MOXIE

"The most remarkably well done Icelandic film to date."

MORGUNBLADID

"A brilliant movie. It is beautiful, painful and yet humorous. Everything worked out right – the acting, the surroundings, the story, sound, picture and everything needed to create superb cinema."

MANNLIF MAGAZINE

"White Night Wedding is a highly entertaining film revolving around the search for happiness."

FRETTABLADID

"The film White Night Wedding grabs the audience and never misses a beat. It gets a stronger hold as the plot unwinds and leaves a lot of good moods and things to ponder on at the end. Baltasar Kormákur’s film is yet another victory the already highly successful director."

FRJALS VERSLUN – business magazine

"In a nutshell, it is fair to say that White Night Wedding is a flawless and enjoyable movie which comes like a fresh breath of air into the darkest and coldest part of the year."

KVIKA.NET

"White Night Wedding is a truly well made and enjoyable movie."

DV DAILY NEWSPAPER

"Now this is nice to see. Baltasar Kormakur‘s fabulous White Night Wedding has been chosen as Iceland’s official entry for the best foreign language film Oscar derby for 2008."

TWITCH

"Balance comedy with a true sense of drama and tragedy is a difficult tak to set yourself, probably one of the most difficult there is, but Kormakur attempts exactly that here and he pulls it off with one of the most satisfyingly complex and nuanced scripts of his career."
