Synopsis

Synopsis

Behind the closed curtains of an isolated villa by the sea, three characters give flesh to a cruel dilemna : how to live life when it becomes unbearable... Althought the film never leaves the interior of the villa, the outside world does enter and makes itself heard in many ways. Iranian society is present, off-screen : TV news, voices and police whistles in the night, a desactivated cell phone, a workman hesitant about compromising himself with the film maker... concrete signals that express the impossibility of rejecting the outside world.

Stills

Press

“A Pirandello-inspired investigation of the ramifications of dissidence.”

Variety

“A poignant evocation of confinement.”

Le Monde

“Beautifully composed and patiently told within the confines of yet another restrictive set, rigorously translates the literal despair of “This Is Not a Film” into pure symbolism.”

Indiewire

"A complex film-within-a-film structure uses the favorite techniques of reflexive Ira-nian cinema to assert the need to recount reality."

The Hollywood Reporter

"More Ionesco than Pirandello at this point, with a dose of Hitchcock in the mix, the story holds us despite the odd theatrical touch."
